Cone flower once established have low maintenance. Water in long dry seasons, however, do not overwater, because the soil may get rotten. The process of deadheading flowers stimulates further flowering, but the flower would leave some of the seed heads, which would give winter interest and serve as bird food. A thin coat of compost during spring allows healthy growth. High types might require support in windy places. Towards the end of autumn, you may prune stems off or leave them erect as an addition to winter texture in the garden.
