Infiniti QX80 squealing from the serpentine belt area, replaced the belt but noise came back
Permalink

So I replaced the serpentine belt on my QX80 about three weeks ago because it was making that classic squealing noise on cold starts, and for about a week it was perfectly quiet and I felt pretty proud of myself for the easy fix. Now the squeal is back, same conditions, worse when the AC is on and mostly during the first few minutes of driving. Clearly the belt itself wasn't the root cause, so now I'm suspecting either a tensioner that's getting weak or one of the pulleys has a bearing that's starting to seize up intermittently. Of course there are about six different pulleys on this engine and I don't have the tools or knowledge to figure out which one is the problem without just replacing everything which gets expensive fast. Trying to find a good Infiniti repair workshop Umm Suqeim area since I'm based in Jumeirah and I'd rather not drive across the city if I don't have to. Dynostar came up in a search and they seem to handle a lot of Nissan and Infiniti products, which makes sense since the QX80 is basically a Patrol underneath. Anyone else with this platform dealt with a recurring belt squeal and can tell me which pulley tends to fail first on these engines, the tensioner or a specific idler? Also wondering if it's worth upgrading to a better quality belt while I'm at it or if the OEM one is fine and I just need to address whatever is causing the misalignment or slippage. The noise is embarrassing on a luxury SUV honestly, makes it sound like a beat up taxi pulling away from a signal.
